The Company also owns and operates a ready-mix concrete plant, which returned 2008 sales of $1.23 million and EBITDA of $24,249. On the whole, all growth is organic, as the Company engages in a negligible amount of outside sales and marketing activities. Retail centers are strategically located in communities into which the big box retailers can not justify entering, and therefore they face very limited competition.
Lumber is the Company’s most popular product line, contributing approximately 26% of combined revenues, followed by mill work (21%), building materials (18%), drywall and roofing (13%), hardware (9%), metal goods (8%) and other (5%). Small contractors and do-it-yourself customers comprise the Company’s consumer base, contributing 60% and 40% of sales, respectively; the customer base for each location is drawn primarily from within a 20-mile radius of the store. Combined, the Company’s wholly-owned facilities total 188,619 square feet of prime retail space; any and all properties are available for sale or long-term lease along with the business.
