CHADDS FORD, PA - A local husband and wife who have dedicated much of their careers to pursuing better healthcare and equality for all are now helping tend to the care, quality of life and everyday financial affairs of residents of Delaware and Montgomery Counties. Dennis and Chris Mahoney recently opened IKOR USA's second office in the region, joining IKOR's Kennett Square location in addressing the needs of the disabled, those with special needs and seniors in the suburbs southwest of Philadelphia.
"Care concerns for the disabled, whether they are in a facility or at home, are so complex that they need an advocate whose primary focus is helping them obtain the correct assistance for their needs," says Dennis Mahoney. "At times, trust professionals may feel unqualified to make complex medical decisions. Now they can look to us as a guiding force, providing independent validation that they are acting in the best interest of their ward. Similarly, with seniors who lack family or have family far away, we help handle the issues that arise when others can't offer first-hand assistance."
IKOR's services are divided into three core areas that are equally critical to optimizing quality of life for those in need of care, as well as their loved ones. These include:
* Professional, experienced dedicated personnel - Every IKOR office includes Registered Nurse Patient Advocates whose services are available all day, every day, to handle medical responsibilities ranging from locating the best care facilities to monitoring those facilities, monitoring prescriptions, evaluating medical care providers, coordinating in-home care and more. Business professionals within each office complement these measures, handling responsibilities from executing power of attorney authorizations to providing routine financial management and more, for a comprehensive approach to pursuing a better quality of life for each client.
* "The IKOR Approach" - A sophisticated system incorporating a need assessment, on-site quality assurance, care services coordination and development of short-term and long-term strategic healthcare plans, the IKOR Approach addresses every medical, environmental, psycho-social and educational issue that affects an individual, offering the best choices to address his or her specific needs.
* Sophisticated technology - DatikorĀ®, a proprietary database-driven system at the heart of The IKOR Approach, ensures that no matter how near or far or what time of day, everyone officially involved in an IKOR client's case management has secure access to the updated information they need for seamless and accurate care.
Mahoney is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and holds an M.B.A. from Boston College. He spent nearly 20 years in healthcare-related positions, including executive roles at Johnson & Johnson, McKesson Specialty Pharmacy and Walgreen's where he worked extensively with managed care organizations, physicians and home health agencies. His appreciation for IKOR's services began when his own mother was in the final stages of a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, and his father was confronted with many quick and difficult decisions he was unprepared to make.
"That experience opened my eyes to the void surrounding how to navigate through such emotional and difficult challenges," he said. "We're excited to be filling that void by bringing our community the services they so greatly need and deserve."
Mahoney is joined in running the new office by his wife Chris, who earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the Arteveldehogeschool in Gent, Belgium, and served as Senior Advisor of Equal Opportunity, Diversity and International Development for the Government of Flanders before leaving Belgium for the United States.
